Wölffer Estate Vineyard

It was a beautiful morning in the Hamptons. The sun was shining, the birds were singing, and the wine was flowing. Wölffer Estate Vineyard is an excellent place to learn about long island wine and what our region has to offer. Located in Sagaponack, NY, it is one turn away from the busy Montauk Highway and conveniently has a quick wine stand to pick up a bottle (or a few). Arriving there was a breeze. Checking into our reservation, we were quickly picked up by the tour guide (we arrived early) and we had a quick chat about wine and exchanged a few tidbits with each other. We started with their amazing Summer in a Bottle. It was light, refreshing, a perfect bottle to bring to the beach.

She went over the history of Wölffer Estate, the family behind it and the many people behind its operations. As more guests were trickling into the tour, we tried a Chardonnay under the name of Perle. Fun fact: Wölffer Estate names their wines after their horses! Their 2020 Chardonnay Perle had an excellent fruity aroma and had a great banana note. One of the most unique tasting chardonnays that I've had!

Our guide showed us the vineyard adjacent to us, explained some of the methods that they use to pick the grapes and their stringent process during the harvest season. We made our way towards the cellar, we tried two more reds called Caya, a cabernet franc from 2019, and Fatalis Fatum, a red blend from 2016.

The winery was an excellent place to be. It's quaint and has a very sophisticated layout, perfect for a tour. The pacing was superb, and the wine was exquisite. I'd like to thank Fairley Pilaro and the team at Wölffer Estate for showing us an excellent time!
